Frequently Asked Questions

What’s different about women’s health care?

Taking care of your body, exercising, and eating right are important whether you’re a woman or a man. But some health conditions affect women differently than men, and some conditions are unique to women.

The biggest differences in women’s bodies involve pregnancy, menopause, and female reproductive organs. Women need regular wellness exams that include pelvic exams and breast exams to help prevent health problems and identify issues earlier.

Trust your care to Josephine and the SkinDesigner Clinic team. Offering Pap smears, consultations for birth control, and more, your health is the priority at SkinDesigner Clinic.

Why is a regular Pap smear important?

A Pap smear, also called a Pap test, is a screening for abnormal cells in the cervix. Abnormal cells inside your cervix can indicate cervical cancer.

Getting regular Pap smears is the best way to detect early signs of cancer. Most women between the ages of 21-65 should get regular Pap smears. Recommended frequency depends on your age and sexual habits.

Pap smears are a routine test that takes just a few minutes. Josephine inserts a speculum and takes a sample of cells from your cervix with a small brush. The cells are sent to a lab for testing.

Most of the time, Pap smear results are normal. If you receive abnormal results or inconclusive results, additional testing is necessary. Getting abnormal results doesn’t automatically mean that you have cervical cancer.

What are my options for birth control?

For women who are sexually active, family planning and birth control are essential considerations. Choosing birth control is a personal decision, and there are a lot of factors to consider.

Josephine helps you determine the right type of birth control for you based on your current sexual habits, risk for developing STDs, desire to have children, and your overall health.

Common forms of birth control are:

  • Barrier methods, such as condoms
  • Oral pill
  • Skin patch
  • Injection
  • Intrauterine device
  • Hormonal implant

The different types of birth control vary in their efficacy at preventing pregnancy. Many women find that one form works better than others for their lifestyle and goals for contraception.
